The worst run ever

It’s been over a week, and I’m just now recovering mentally from a terrible run. May 20, 2012 will go down in infamy as the day of my worst run ever. When it was all said and done, I pretty much felt like this.

The weather here in Chicago has been fluctuating terribly, making it challenging to schedule runs. It’s a cool 50 degrees today, but during my last 7 mile long run, it was 90 degrees. I had a choice to either run in the heat during the day, or wait until the evening when there was a chance of thunderstorms. I wish I would have taken my chances of being struck by lightning. Not only was I hot, my foot really started to hurt at about mile 5. I did a lot of walking, stretching, and cursing. I felt so bad afterwards; I resorted to taking an ice bath for some reprieve. I didn’t really run again until Memorial Day. I ran 3 miles and felt pretty good, surprisingly.

The women's half marathon is just over four weeks away. I mentioned it a couple of posts ago, but I am seriously considering dropping down from the half to the 5K. I decided I’ll make the call on race day. I’m holding out as long as possible. Tomorrow I’m attempting an 8 mile long run. The forecast still calls for cooler weather, so I’m hoping this will be a better run. Have you ever had a terrible run or workout? How long did it take you to get over it?
