Margaux Bijoux & Polyester Soul at Studio 8 flea market

A friend and me recently shared a space at Studio 8's monthly flea market in Oak Park.

Polyesters Soul is a lover of all things vintage. Especially from the 70s. She also had a rack of clothing from different eras including the 50s and 60s.

This shopper walked away with this vintage beauty. Perfect for her 20s themed dance performance that evening.

My booth seems to change each show or market. I added painted wine bottles and a couple of flowers to the table.

Sold out of this style again! I've been sewing  canvas fold over bags painted with a afro pick stamp I carved.  I can't keep them in stock.

My hairstylist who also loves to collect and sell vintage items had a table at the market.

I can see why these ladies love vintage clothing!

Race recap: 2015 Esprit de She 5K - Chicago

This post is massively past due. This is what happens when you let work take over your life. As untimely as they are, I still want to share pics from the July Esprit de She 5K and 10K in Chicago. I ran this race the same week as the Humana Rock 'n' Roll Race 10K to celebrate my birthday. It was an exceptionally fun time with running friends.

These are my top 5 best reasons to run the Esprit de She races:

5. An unusual (in a good way) out-and-back course along the lakefront.

4. Mad swag. I'm not over exaggerating. The post race party offered unlimited yummy hummus and naan bread; a canvas tote bag full of snacks and freebies from Target; a manicure station; and lots more.

3. Founding Finisher perks. Participants who ran the race in its first two years receive expedited service at the Bubbly Bar and and pretty flower.

2. The Bubbly Bar - with an extra drink ticket for Founding Finishers.

1. A fun Thursday evening "out on the town" with friends. We'll be back in 2016!

Race recap: 2015 Humana Rock 'n' Roll Race Series - Chicago

Thousands of runners participated in the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll weekend race series in Chicago with the 5K on Saturday and the 10K and half marathon held on Sunday. Many took on the Remix Challenge which awarded runners who participated in one event both days. I love that this series had a race for runners at every level. It’s definitely motivation for all to #RockYourHealth.

Saturday I attended the race expo where 2014 Boston Marathon champ Meb Keflezighi greeted fans. He whizzed past me on the course as he ran the half marathon and completed the Remix Challenge having also completed Saturday’s 5K.

Sunday was a hot one. Temperatures were already in the 70s when the 10K kicked off at 7:00 a.m. Several women in my local running group participated. Sunday for us was about enjoying the run and staying safe in the heat and humidity. The course wound through the city, along Lake Michigan and finished in Grant Park.

Kudos to HumanaVitality and the Cheer Squad for their presence in the last miles of the race. There were plenty of water stations and cheering volunteers on the course. The cold sponges and the inflatable misting station before the final turn to the finish line was the best motivation to finish strong!

I hadn’t run the 10K distance in quite some time so it was a great feeling to complete this goal and my legs still feel good after crossing the finish line. Next year I would love to complete the Remix Challenge and incorporate training for the 5K. Who doesn’t like a little extra bling?
